Khyalia’s Story

Khyalia found out that she was pregnant just as she was about to join the army. She had already broken her lease, so she temporarily moved in with her mother during her pregnancy and took a job at a local gas station. After her daughter, Willow, was born, Khyalia set a goal of getting her own place.

Determined to build a stable future for herself and her daughter, Khyalia reached out to The Care Service for support. Her case manager, Ashley, immediately connected her to resources that would make all the difference. "She let me know about things that I didn’t even know were out there, and that helped a ton," Khyalia said. With Ashley’s help, Khyalia was connected to resources like furniture vouchers, food stamps, utility assistance, and much-needed baby items for Willow.

With The Care Service paying for the security deposit and the first month’s rent, Khyalia was able to move into her very own apartment a few weeks before her birthday. When Ashley checked in on how the move had gone, Khyalia’s face lit up with excitement. “It’s been a crazy busy weekend, but I’m just so happy. I finally have my own home for me and Willow,” she said.

When Ashley asked about birthday plans, Khyalia smiled. “At first, I wanted to go out, but now I just want to be home. I think I’ll cook for me and Willow and just enjoy being in our new place,” she said, still amazed. “I can’t believe this is really my home!”

Khyalia’s journey didn’t stop there. She completed a college course to become a Pharmaceutical Technician and prepared for the state exam. With her newfound education, she secured a position at a large pharmacy. "I'm so excited to finally be starting my career," she shared. Ashley encouraged Khyalia to continue planning for the future. Khyalia opened a savings account and has been steadily building her savings.

Today, Khyalia is in a strong place, she has been paying bills on time - rent, car payments, utilities, and car insurance. She is working hard to create the best future possible for her daughter. "I want to get things together for Willow and me, that’s what I’m focused on now," she said.
